Neurofeedback, via software, gives the brain a way to see itself in action. It does this by measuring brain waves via EEG. Brainwaves are the sum total of millions of neurons all firing at once. The number of neurons sparking in the brain at a certain frequency (speed) conveys information that defines the amplitude (or power). Brainwaves are measured in Hertz (waves per second), and have spectrum of frequencies. Each frequency spectrum carries a different meaning about emotions, physical movement, concentration, and creative expression. Frequency bandwidths are part of the whole raw electroencephalograph (EEG).

During the course of a session, desirable and undesirable brainwaves are rewarded and inhibited. Rewards are visual and auditory signals that are turned on when desirable brainwaves cross thresholds. Inhibits are visual and auditory signals that are turned off when undesirable brain waves cross thresholds. The brain then learns how to be more efficient and effective. Neurofeedback can address brain issues by focusing on specific brain networks. Its core is network activation and deactivation. Drugs affect the brain on a molecular level. The first step is to record an image of the brain. This noninvasive process involves recording your brain waves for six minutes with eyes open and six more minutes with eyes closed.
